Department Mission Statement:
To ensure the safety of all students, staff, and visitors to any Montrose County school and to enhance the educational environment, ensuring each and every student has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential for academic achievement and success. We accomplish this through a partnership with the whole community, which includes students, staff, parents, local businesses and government organizations, and a high-functioning school board.
Montrose County School District keeps our schools safe through a layered approach and a range of different safety and security measures. In addition to physical campus improvements such as access controls, vestibules, surveillance systems, and duress alarms, we also utilize School Resource Officers, partner closely with local law enforcement and mental health providers, maintain an active school threat assessment process (we follow the Salem-Keizer Model of Student Threat Assessment), and create a culture of shared responsibility in which every individual who has security concerns speaks up (either to school officials, law enforcement, or anonymously through Safe 2 Tell). These are only a few of the myriad ways we keep schools protected.
