Community Engagement - MHS Bond

Since January 2024, Montrose County School District (MCSD) has been diligently working on planning, programming, conceptual and schematic design for the new Montrose High School (MHS) project. This process has involved extensive collaboration with stakeholders across the district and the community to ensure that every voice is heard and considered in the planning and design of the new Montrose High School.

Our due diligence process has included over 60 meetings, encompassing various focus groups, executive committee discussions, and community open houses. These meetings have brought together MCSD administration, Board of Education members, teachers, students, parents, community members, and first responders to discuss and provide input on every aspect of the new school design.

Key Highlights:

• From 2021-2023, the district completed a rigorous Master Capital Plan, analyzing the condition of all facilities, and prioritizing improvements (identifying MHS as a critical need). 

• In March 2024, we kicked off with initial meetings involving MCSD administration and the executive committee to establish the project's direction.

• Throughout April 2024, we conducted numerous focus groups, engaging with teachers from different departments, students, parents, and community members. These sessions allowed us to gather comprehensive feedback and insights into the needs and expectations for the new school.

• In May 2024, we continued focus group discussions and hosted community open houses on April 30, 2024, and May 21, 2024, to present preliminary designs and receive further community input.

• In June 2024, we presented the latest updates and plans to the Board of Education, reflecting the collective input gathered from all stakeholders over the past months.

Throughout this process, we have prioritized transparency and community involvement, ensuring that the final design of Montrose High School reflects the needs of our students, staff, and the broader community.
