The goal of Adapted Physical Education (APE) in Montrose County is to provide all students with special needs, regardless of their disability, the opportunity to participate in physical education, safely and successfully, in the least restrictive environment.
In the Montrose County School District, there is one APE specialist that provides both direct and consultative services to students with special needs. Currently, she serves 13 schools within the county. The APE specialist works with students with various and sometimes multiple disabilities such as visual and hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, etc. Our goal is to provide appropriate physical education in the least restrictive environment to each and every student with unique needs.
